Who can join

Age

Aged between 15 and 35 at the time of joining. The MSG may adopt a fellowship pathway for individuals up to 40 who serve in a mentorship or advisory capacity.

Geography

Residents or nationals of a South Asian country – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka – or members of the South Asian diaspora actively engaged in South Asian internet governance issues.

Commitment

Commitment to the principles of Openness, Transparency, Inclusion, and Multi-stakeholderism; to devoting reasonable time and effort; and to maintaining respect for all other members.

How membership works

  • Membership is open, transparent, and determined solely by voluntary participation in the designated public MSG mailing list.
  • The MSG conducts appropriate due diligence of applicants and adopts membership based on a transparent review process.
  • Each member states an affiliation to one, and only one, recognised stakeholder group: Government, Civil Society, Private Sector, Technical Community, Academia and Research, or the Media Community.
  • All MSG meetings are open to any individual to observe and participate, and minutes and decisions are published within seven (7) days.
  • All members are equal, have the same rights and responsibilities, and act in their personal capacity.
  • Members who demonstrate a sustained lack of commitment, or who act contrary to the principles of the founding document, may be suspended or removed subject to due and democratic process.

Becoming a Voting Member

An MSG member becomes a Voting Member, entitled to vote in formal decisions, once they have been subscribed to the MSG mailing list for at least six (6) months before an election or formal vote, and have attended at least two (2) MSG meetings during the relevant cycle. A list of Voting Members is published publicly prior to any formal vote.

Other ways to contribute

  • Serve on a Committee, Sub-Committee, or Working Group – these are constituted through an open Call for Volunteers with due regard to diversity.
  • Act as a Regional Coordinator for one of the seven South Asian nations, facilitating national-level outreach and coordination with national IGFs.
  • Contribute to public consultations on the programme agenda and respond to calls for session inputs.
  • Partner with or support yIGF South Asia through fellowship, sponsorship, and partnership opportunities.
